It can be a very lonely gig, being in business for yourself. I know, I’ve been down that rabbit-hole. You can feel your energy and creativity drain away, until you are left with nothing but struggle.
It doesn’t have to be like this; in fact, it should not be like this. I don’t know where the lie comes from, but the idea that you have to do it all alone in business is a lie. Think of all the prize ceremonies, award nights, celebrations and recognitions you’ve seen. People who have succeeded in sport, the arts, studies, politics… They are being totally honest when they say, “I couldn’t have done it alone.”
That’s why, along your business journey, in good times and bad, you will need trusted advisors, cheerleaders, shoulders to cry on, people who just get it.
Here’s an approach.
Start by acknowledging. Feeling isolated is a common experience for business owners. We get caught up in the day-to-day, and suddenly there’s no-one to talk to about it.
Seek out your tribe. It’s not just about business growth or referrals, but also about a supportive network where you can share experiences, challenges, and advice.
Find mentors. Have a sounding board for ideas and concerns. Build relationships with those who can guide, inspire, and support you.
Join a mastermind group. They are small, peer-to-peer mentoring circles where owners to come together to solve problems, support each other, and share strategies. It’s highly structured, high-trust and high-value.
Yes, there’s an app for all this 😊. It’s called Business Accelerate. It incorporates all I’ve learned from running business owner groups for over 20 years. And we’d love to welcome you as a new member.
